As regular attendees will know, every now and again we like to bring you a film you wouldn’t necessarily have seen, or even know anything about – often picked by one of our team for being a hidden gem. So for August’s screening we’re bringing you a film set – fittingly – during the height of summer.
Duncan (Liam James) is an awkward teen who must spend the summer at a beach house with his mother (Toni Collette), her boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and Trent’s obnoxious daughter. Trent is forever badgering and needling Duncan, so the youth steals away to a water park and gets a job that will help him stay off Trent’s radar. As Duncan tends to the slides and pools of the aging park, he finds a father figure in wisecracking park manager Owen (Sam Rockwell) at a time when he desperately needs one.
Part coming-of-age story, part family drama, and with a large helping of comedy, it really is a feel-good movie, guaranteed to lift your spirits.
